ways to get involved

Legal Prep has a strong tradition of engaging members of the community with Legal Prep students.  Whether you are an individual or a member of a Chicago-area business or law firm please see some of the opportunities below.

For more information on any of these programs, contact Laura Miller at [email protected].

join our Law programs - Negotiations,
Mock Trial, debate and Mapping the Future

Law firms and corporations "adopt" a cohort of students who meet monthly with your volunteers at your office to develop legal advocacy skills through hands-on projects supplied by Legal Prep.  Over the course of this school year long program, students and volunteers will work through a series of structured lessons and activities which will provide students with a basic understanding of legal reasoning skills as well as unparalleled experiences and exposures to legal professionals. Firms provide sponsorship, attorneys, and are encouraged to join with a client or other partner in its Advisory adoption, providing a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and the community.

serve as a mentor

Lawyers and business professionals who are interested in partnering with and guiding one student through their high school career are encouraged to take part in Legal Prep’s mentorship program. Mentors communicate and meet with Legal Prep students on a regular basis and provide advice on college, career, and the future. Apply HERE.

become a guest teacher

Members of the legal community are encouraged to bring their own experience and knowledge into the classroom on a one-time or regular basis. You can provide the social justice or topical subject matter (e.g. "is your cellphone watching you?", "understanding your rights as a tenant") or we can provide the content for you.  Students benefit and appreciate the insights and perspective of professionals outside of the education framework.

volunteer for group clean up/physical improvement projects

Organizations, associations and businesses can participate in group clean up or building improvement projects. Previous projects have included painting, clean up, gardening and library cataloguing. If volunteers wish to work on projects with students, this also could be done during weekday or weekend hours.

you tell us!

We are very open to any ideas or opportunities you envision for the next generation of lawyers and leaders. Please contact Laura Miller at [email protected] with any questions, concerns, or suggestions on how you or your firm can get involved.
